FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
|
Is it True that Hypnosis is not accepted by western medicine and that it is hocus pocus??
No. Hypnosis has been recognized by many professional medical associations including the American Medical Association and the British Medical Association since the 1950’s as an effective treatment method. One of the reasons why it is not used more often is the time involved, and in doing an induction versus the speed writing a prescription for drugs. However, hypnosis does not have any side effects.
Is Hypnosis is mind control?
No. Hypnosis is not mind control. Actually, it is a state of extreme focus in which you are in complete control. You would not do or reveal anything that you wouldn’t in any other state. Hypnosis is merely focused concentration. With hypnosis, you are in control of your own experience at all times. It is not mind control.
Hypnosis is truth serum?
No. In the state of hypnosis you can lie or edit all you want. It is not a truth serum. You won't tell any secrets, or share anything that you wouldn’t normally under hypnosis either.
Will I lose control under hypnosis?
NO! You are always in control of your own experience with hypnosis. All hypnosis is, in fact, self-hypnosis. Hypnosis is much like going to a movie and having an emotional reaction. Have you ever cried during a movie? This is actually a state of hypnosis. Intellectually we all know that the movie is not real. But, we willing focus our attention and feel connected to the story. During a Hypnotic trance if something disturbs you, you refocus your attention and come back to your normal state if you like.
Will I remember anything that happened during hypnosis?
YES!!! You will hear and remember everything that happens during hypnosis, unless you go into a somnambulistic state, which is the deepest of all trances. Your mind is alert, your body relaxed, and you will remember what transpired to the same degree as you would recall a conversation, for instance.
Can’t Hypnosis can make people do things they ordinarily wouldn't do?
NO!!! You will never do anything during hypnosis that violates your own moral code. If a stage hypnotist tells you to bark like a dog, or quack like a duck and you have no moral inhibitions against doing so, you may well comply. Another person might find that action embarrassing and would not do it.
I don't think I can be hypnotized. How can you tell if I can?
Almost everyone can be hypnotized, as long as they are of normal intelligence, not on certain medications, and most importantly IF THEY WANT TO BE HYPNOTIZED.The vast majority of the population can be hypnotized. In fact, most people go in and out of trance several times during the day. If you've ever daydreamed, were totally engrossed in a book or movie, or passed your exit on the highway, you were in a light trance state.
I heard you need a deep trance to get results?
NO!! Most often only a light trance is necessary to get the results our clients are looking for. We are often consulted for smoking cessation, weight loss, addictions, increased performance, procrastination and dozens of other things require only a light trance to effect change. Other situations such as if you're going in for surgery or under the dentist's drill, you want to make sure you are in a deeper trance. But the depth of the trance has very little to do with achieving results. The best thing to do is just relax, go along with the process, and look forward to the changes to naturally occur for you.
Will I know if I'm hypnotized??
Not necessarily… Most people expect to be so deeply under that they won't hear anything or remember anything. Most people cannot tell if they're hypnotized. The truth is, you will hear and remember everything that's said under hypnosis. Your mind is alert, but relaxed. I tell my clients let me worry about whether or not you're hypnotized, and just go along with the process.
Will know right away if it's working or not??
Not Necessarily…. Sometimes, you won't know at the time if you're being hypnotized. Your feelings, actions, and changed behaviors in the days to come will be the measure of your success. I’ve had clients come in for pain relief, and they knew immediately that they had relief. With weight loss clients, they only knew that it had worked when they had the opportunity to eat the foods they had been addicted to, and found they had no interest in them any longer. The same holds true for smoking cessation clients. As this habit is much more frequent, they find almost immediately that the cravings had been diminished and/or eliminated.
The hypnotist has all the power. He does hypnosis to me, right?
NO!!! You are in total control during your own hypnosis session. Essentially, you are responsible for your own experience under trance. The hypnotist is merely a tour guide on a your guided meditation. You may want to think of them as a facilitator, or even your coach giving you a “pep talk”. He or she cannot "make" you do anything against your will or intent. Some of my clients wish I had that kind of power, so I could wave a magic wand to make them lose weight, stop smoking, stop procrastinating, finally go after living the life they would love. But only you have that kind of power and control.
Can I write off my stop smoking sessions for tax purposes??
